Well, the weekend started out great!
Last weekend started out just great! Saturday was beautiful. I got out for an early morning run. We worked around the house. And we went out in the evening to Christina's first gymnastic show.
She has been taking gymnastics for a little while, and this year they decided to put together a little show for the parents. It was actually really good and I was amazed at how well Christina did!!
Sunday was another gorgeous day. It was cool, but so sunny. Eric took the girls out in our front yard for a game of softball in the afternoon while I snapped some pictures. They had such a great time running around.
I then grabbed a book and parked myself in the backyard to bask in the sun and enjoy some complete relaxation. It really has been so long since I was able to just relax and do almost NOTHING for most of the day. We had nowhere to go, we had nothing to do. It was perfect.
Until 4 p.m.
Yup, just when you think everything can't get any better, it gets much worse.
The girls were playing in the backyard with a friend. Christina came in saying Kallie fell and was crying. We brought her in and gave her some cuddles. She said her arm hurt. She was pretty upset and crying hard so we got her a drink and let her snuggle up and watch some TV.
However, every time I asked her how her arm was, she would really start crying again, which made me worry. There have been many little cuts and bruises that seem, initially, to be horrible, but most often the kid has forgotten about the injury a short time later.
That was NOT happening.
Kallie spent the rest of the day on the couch. My gut was to take her in for an x-ray. But I hated to put her through that trauma if she was just bruised. She sat and quietly watched tv until bedtime. And she went quickly to sleep that night (while still seriously nursing the arm).
At 11 p.m she was up and was screaming. And I knew something was really wrong.
We were off the ER where the x-rays revealed what I suspected - a broken arm. Not only that, my poor Kallie broke BOTH bones in her forearm, right at her elbow.
So, a perfect weekend ended with a late night visit to the ER and a next day visit to the ortho dr.
And my sweetie gets to welcome in her summer 2009 with this little beauty:
Oh well, on the good side, kids heal fast and the doctors expect to remove the cast in about 3 weeks. Which would be great because my little sweetie is supposed to have a big 4th birthday celebration in our POOL in about 3 weeks!!!
Cross your fingers!!!

oh dear. :( I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. :( poor little Kallie. Do you know how she fell, and what she was doing?
hugs to you both.
Oh no! Poor Kallie! Kids do heal amazingly fast...so I hope she has the cast removed before her party!
Oh dear! Poor Princes Kallie! Here's hoping for a quick recovery and a fab pool party!!
Poor little girl!! Thankfully yes they do heal fast :) But right at the start of summer, no fun!
awh..I hope she is feeling better... I am sure she will be nice and healed by the party..they are amazing at healing..
Poor girl! At least she got a pretty pink cast instead of those stinky, itchy ones we had back in the day.
Yikes! This broken arm thing really seems to be spreading. We were out last night and saw a little boy with TWO casts on his arms. Here's hoping that cast comes off before the party!
Wow! Three weeks is quick! I'm so glad it won't spoil her summer. This will make for great stories from Kallie, too.
OMG - What an experience! Poor thing! I am not looking forward to things like this - I hate it when my kids get even a bump!
Poor Kallie. I hope she's feeling better soon and will keep my fingers crossed for a cast-free birthday!
