Photostory Friday! FIRE!!!!!

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Oh, don't worry, this little fire was courtesy of our next door neighbor. He likes to set these little bonfires in his side yard.....10 feet from our house.....

Neighbor's fire

Yeah, no worries....that fire was only about 20 feet high.....

I mean, he is a volunteer fireman! We should feel confident he does know what he is doing....

Seriously...this guy is really nice. One of those guys with a very rough and gruff exterior, with a heart of gold inside. But he sets these fires every once in a while and they always make me nervous.

The last time he did it, my husband wasn't home. I was sitting in my kitchen, watching, wondering at what point I should be packing up my kiddos and heading for the hills. I was seriously nervous. The little "bonfire" he set was almost the size of a small house!

But this time, my hubby was home talking to the neighbor, watching the fire. So I felt a bit more at ease. Although Mr. Neighbor joked every once in while that the fire was a little bigger than he expected....

This time, again, it was OK. Luckily we have had a LOT of rain lately, so there was little chance it would spread.

But I still do not like messing with fire.

And I still don't like massive bonfires right outside my kitchen.

Although, after he was done, the sunrays shining through the remaining smoke was really pretty!

Sunlight through the smoke

Have a good one!!!

Both of those shots are great. Although how you don't like messing with fire is beyond me.

Wow...you've definitely got some interesting neighbors.

At least it made for some fabulous shots!

Ooo scary. My dad once lit a bonfire and set fire to next door's fence and tree! Good job they had a sense of humour (and a hosepipe!)

Those are two of the coolest pictures I've seen lately! Scary story though.

Those shots RAWK. And as long as he didn't burn down the house, it was totally worth it for those shots Irene.

BOTH of those shots are amazing!!

And I would so be cowering in the kitchen while my husband was out chatting about fire and adding kindling to make it bigger. What is it with boys and fire??

This is a perfect PSF addition! Thanks so much for playing!!

Both the picture of the fire and the one of the sun shining through the smoke look almost surreal! Wow!

Just came over to see your PSF. Beautiful pictures!! Sorry about your crazy neighbor though.

I played around a lot with my settings while taking these pics, but found that a slow shutter speed (1/6 sec) really made the fire look more like it was flowing. I braced the camera against my deck railing to prevent shake.

Fireman or not, I thnk I'd be a bit nervous about those tall flames next to my house! Still, it is beautiful....and the sunlight thru smoke is incredible!

Just clicking through your site and the photos are breathtaking.

Love the smoky shot...

Is that actually legal?? I know we have to have enclosed fire pits or a burning permit.

Oh great photos! I was in shock from the story.

Who would think that ugly smoke could yield such a beautiful photo....with the help of the sun, of course!

yeah, a fire right outside the door would make me very nervous. Really terrific smoke capture!

And as always - your water photos are so mahvelous! I love how you're able to catch such wonderful reflections in the drops.

thanks for the inspiration :)
