Me and My Valentines

Since I have been complaining a lot lately about being stuck at home with my crazy kids and my pesky hubby, I thought, since it IS Valentine's Day, I decided not to complain at all. So, my Valentine's gift to my hubby is no "you won't believe what my husband did" posts today! Yeah, I don't think he appreciated my last few posts.

So I will instead share photos from yesterday's snow day of me and my most absolute favorite valentines of all time!

Tina Wina, who played outside for FIVE straight hours yesterday:

Kallie Wallie, my little princess:

Daddy and HIS little princess:

And me and my SWEETEST sweetie, Caroline:

Anyway, yesterday was our second snow day. It was actually a much nicer snow day than usual. Everyone was busy and there was minimal fighting. I got out to the Y for a nice, unhurried workout. Christina and her Daddy got lots of fresh air. It was a great day afterall!

Today, school is back in session! And the skies were sunny, yet cold. Christina was SO excited to be back to school. Today they have a field trip to see "Alice in Wonderland" at our local theater.

And the day started out on such a sweet note.

When Christina was getting ready for school, and I was fixing her hair, she said:

"Mom, today is Valentine's Day".

"Yes it is." I said sort of off-handedly.

"Mom, I love you SO much."

And my heart melted.

On a related note, I am reading a very good book right now. It is "In an Instant". It is the story of journalist Bob Woodruff, his wife and his 4 kids. He almost died from a extremely serious head injury while reporting in Iraq. And this book is about his career, his recovery and his relationship with wife both before and after the accident. I highly recommend it.

Bob was in a coma for 5 weeks, when he woke, although doing quite well considering, he still had significant issues which required months and years of treatment and therapy. About 3 months after the initial accident, while he was still hospitalized, his wife Lee was sitting with him, watching him sleep. She had no idea now much he would recover from this accident. She didn't know if he would ever be even close to the same as he was before. And she got an overwhelming ache to just lay with him and hold him and go back to those lost days. She wrote:

"I remembered all those times as a wife when I'd been too tired, when the thought of conjugal duty had felt like just that. I would have bartered years off my life, forgone untold luxuries, traded fingers and toes like coins to steal some of those nights back. We'd squandered all that time together, I thought now in retrospect, it was as though we'd used up precious oxygen in a room we'd never known was airtight."

That paragraph really hit me. It is such a true remark about our time with ALL of our valentines. Our time IS limited, it is going to end, no one knows when. Don't waste a second! Be happy! Have fun!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day,

In all the years I have known you, I have never really noticed a resemblence between you and your sister until today. I love the pics! Maybe we can get together one day and you can give me some tips on taking great pics. I'm thinking the first step is getting a new camera. My pics frequenty come out dark for no reason and the zoom isn't that great. Enjoy your V-Day!

I liked this one. It sounds like you're really happy today. Denise thinks we look alike? A nurse in the hospital did a double take to me. Mom introduced me as her other daughter and she asked if we were twins! Weird!

What beautiful pictures. You have such adorable kids!

I am going to have to look for that book. I think I DO tend to think in terms of tomorrow, next week, next year, etc. The paragraph you quoted hit me hard.

What beautiful pictures!! Your daughters are just adorable. Their mommy is pretty darn cute too - BTW. And dad isn't too awful bad either - great looking family Irene. I'm glad you all had such a great day - and so much fun in the snow. Take care and have a great weekend - Kellan

That passage is probably something I really needed to hear today...especially after my husband's less than stellar V-day performance.

And those kiddos! SO Cute! Also...you are a babe! (In an I'm-not-a-stalker sort of way.)

Dude, you're hot! You already knew that all of your girls are gorgeous, and now we know where they get it from.

Glad y'all were able to enjoy the snow! I'm hoping it will stick around long enough for us to try a little sledding tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
